MEMBER SERVICES
Survivor Assistance - Assistance is available from the
Association at the time of a serious illness or death and includes bereavement
counseling and technical and/or administrative aid in making funeral
arrangements and in the filing of important documents with appropriate branches
of the armed services.
Visitation - Members are encouraged to contact any of the people listed
in the masthead of THE SARASOTA BREEZE or elsewhere in this directory when they
become aware of another member or member’s spouse in extremis and needing
counseling, visitation, or other assistance related to a serious illness.
YAHOOs (formerly the Under 60 Club): The YAHOOs, or Young At Heart
Officers Organization, is an informal group within MOAS that was begun in 1997
to provide a social outlet specifically designed for the younger members. Most
other activities and services are tailored to the principal membership base,
World War II era veterans and spouses. Different events are sponsored monthly by
“YAHOO” members and have included canoe trips, baseball games. golfing, bowling,
fishing, sunset dinner cruises,
cocktail parties, Sunday brunches, and evenings at the theater, etc. As the
Association ages, we must appeal to younger veterans, and this was one small way
to try to attract that segment of the military population in Sarasota.
Singles Support. Group Based on a suggestion from one of our members, our
chapter organized a singles’ support group. This group is designed to provide
assistance to newly widowed spouses and to allow spouses in similar situations
to get together on an informal basis to share and enjoy other aspects of life in
Sarasota. |
