  • Qualifications
    • You don’t have to be retired to join our Chapter. We have three membership categories and we welcome all. Our membership fee is a modest $35/year, includes our digital newsletter. Printed copies are available for $12 more.

      Regular Membership
      Regular memberships open to active duty, retired, National Guard, reserve, former commissioned officers and warrant officers of the uniformed services. Officers or former officers of foreign services are also welcome to join.

      Auxiliary Membership
      Auxiliary memberships are open to surviving spouses of deceased officers and warrant officers.

      Associate Membership
      Associate Memberships are open to those who support our goals and objectives and wish to support veteran programs in our community. Requires Board approval.

  • Chapter Goals & Objectives

      The Military Officers Association of Sarasota exists to improve the awareness, life style, and overall environment of its members; support and serve the citizens of the Sarasota area; influence the political process in matters pertaining to retired military personnel; and enhance the image of America’s uniformed services in our local area. The specific objectives of the Association in support of its stated goals are as follows:
      Facilitate the social interaction of Association members through scheduled events and Association publications and encourage member involvement in Association activities; - Schedule and conduct a social “get-together” once a month in the form of a luncheon, dinner, or special event, which will also serve as a business meeting; - Conduct an annual, formal, Military Gala Ball in the month of December in which military customs are observed and uniforms are encouraged;

      Attract high level civilian and military speakers to both inform and entertain Association members at scheduled events; 

      Improve access to available health services by optimizing the authorized use of military or military related health facilities through an informed membership;

      Monitor and review local, state, and national legislation, pending or passed, to insure that Association members are apprised of the impact and can act in an informed manner on the issues;

      Support individual members and their families in times of difficulty, crisis, illness, or death; 

      Represent the military, active or retired, at suitable local events or ceremonies;

      Conduct a major annual fund drive to support the Association’s Scholarship Award Program which provides $1,500 scholarships to area graduating high school seniors;

      Serve as an information source and facilitator for retired military family members seeking help with survivor assistance issues, and health or related matters;

      Publish a monthly newsletter to all Association members addressing local and national issues of relevance to retired military personnel and families;

      Maintain a liaison with local, state and national organizations involved in the activities and interests of retired military personnel;

      Sponsor and/or participate in selected youth and military or military related activities in the community to include support for high school J ROTC groups, Academic Olympics, and other youth related programs.

      • Publish as annual Membership Directory so everyone can stay in touch.
      • Young At Heart Officers Organization [YAHOO] for members still in the work force, offering unique networking opportunities and social events.

      Make Yourself Heard

      • Monitor & evaluate state, local, and national legislation of interest to veterans.
      • Coordinate with other veterans organizations in our community
      • Be a voice at events and conferences that bring together all MOAA Chapters.

      Giving Back to the Community

      • Support individual members and their families during times of difficulty, crises, illness or death.
      • Represent the military active or retired at selected local events or ceremonies.
      • Provide scholarships to graduating high school seniors and returning veterans in local colleges
      • Participation in and sponsorship of Academic Olympics
      • Continue implementation and expansion of the successful American Flag Protocol Initiative.
      • Support JROTC programs and events
      • Sponsor a national flag Initiative educational program for elementary schools and our community.

      Staying Informed

      • Improve access to available health services and most recent information.
      • Serve as an information resource and facilitator
      • Publish a monthly newsletter called The Sarasota Breeze, which keeps everyone up to date on the month’s activities and reports from the Chapter leadership team.
